Are You Eligible for EU Passport?

No matter for which reason you are planning to move to Europe, whether to study or for a job, to start your future with a UK resident or to start a business, or to change the life’s pace, there are many rules to follow before you get a European passport.

Effect of Brixit on EU Passport


After the effect of Brixit, you cannot enter Europe with a British passport. You have to follow the same rules that are followed by non- British citizens to get the passport.

It is easy important to be the citizen of Europe to obtain a European Passport. So first get yourself the European Citizenship. If you are European resident (not UK resident) then there is no issue in obtaining a passport. However, if you are not then firstly you have to get the citizenship.


Options to Gain the Citizenship


For most of the British people, Ireland is the first choice as it is close geographically. If any of your parents or Irish or any one of your grandparents are from Ireland, then you can get the Ireland citizenship under the descent but you have to register your birth on foreign births register.


If your parents are foreign residents settled in Ireland for three to four years then you are entitled as an Irish citizen.


Marry someone from a European country and you will get the European citizenship is an age-old idea and would not work for all the countries now. Each country has different types of policies.


Firstly, you must be 18 years old and should be of good character and sound mind with no criminal record. You must have lived in the UK for more than three years and in those three years you should not have spent more than 270 days outside the UK and you have fulfilled these requirements before filing the application.


You will be given an exemption from these if your spouse is working for EU government or any closer organization for the government.


You can apply for the citizenship in three methods

· Apply individually by filing AN

· Apply through NCS

· Apply through a legitimate agent from a private company.


Then you have to pass the test named “Life in the EU”. This costs you 50 Euros and for the test, you can apply online.


If you have long-term mental or physical condition then you are exempted from the test.

If you are unable to get the citizenship with these methods then you are left with the option of buying the citizenship. Yes, your bank balance can get you the citizenship though it is not the right way.


After getting through this long process of citizenship enrollment and after getting the citizenship, you will be eligible for getting EU passport.
